Household machines and I don’t get along
too well. It’s not a mutual love affair.
I love them, time saving and handy:
they seem to want to test my love
at every turn.
.
VCRs mystify me…
my husband #2 was in the hospital
years ago. All he asked was that
I tape a program for him each night.
.
He loves machines,
and had three VCRs to tape “his” shows.
Well, the first night he was gone,
I deprogrammed all three…!
.
My resolution was to stay up
til it started at midnight, hit “start to record”…
I woke up the next morning when
I heard the tape hit the end and rewind !
.
The same hospitalization,
I did something to the washing machine
that needed a call to “Browns” the store
all appliances come from, for a repairman. SIGH.
the trusty repairman
.
My list goes on and on.
Some machines and I get along quite well.
Those that I don’t fair well with,
I’m not allowed to touch !

The trite phrase comes to mind, “been there, done that”. Tee! Hee!…

Zongrik…
Machines and I just done mix when it comes to other than following directions ! I am a viewer not a fixer on machines ☺. I love to watch, not touch !

I know the sound of this rings true for me too at times. I’ve worked in software for a while and do okay, but mechanical devices often stump me. Your poem is both funny and sad, if only from the frustration you must feel atbtimes!

It’s just that some machines clash with our personalities – it’s never the other way around.
siggiofmaine
David,
I like the way you think !

the one who does machines in this house – my OH is terrified of buttons and switches – he swears everything goes haywire if he touches it, and he’s not wrong. He too is a ” a sleepture of habit” (wonderful phrase, Charles) – a couple of zzzs in front of the telly, about 4 hours sleep in bed if he’s lucky, and on the go from sparrow’s fart to the small hours.

LOL, SIggi, I can relate …

You’ve said it right, Siggio Ma’am. We are governed by them and we shout at the repairman when things are wrong. There’ll come a day when we socialize with friends but still remain alone in the house with the ‘machines.’
Grace
There are some I don’t touch too ~ But most of the time, they are efficient and saves me time ~

haha i deprogrammed all three….smiles…the sad thing is my boys at 7 and 9 could probably figure out …crazy huh? there are a few that confound me as well…
siggiofmaine
Brian…
I know about the youngsters…a few years ago, my daughter and her then husband took a trip to Africa, and I took care of the youngest granddaughter, at 3 years old computer wise. The first day
she had pre-school, and headed to the door…I had to call her back to the computer room…I couldn’t figure out how to shut down the program she was using…so she came and showed me how to do it.
Sigh.
My son is a bit like me except with computers…but has a very competent wife to help change light bulbs, things that are breakable ! My daughter is very handy, but in Texas.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment…appreciate it.

siggiofmaine
Charles…
you night owl, you ! That is when I am just startin’ to get my brain in gear. That’s a partial truth
these days. At almost 70…seems like 80…I have a private duty job…one of those “fate” things,
like facebook and bloggin’ … it was for an emergency, but something I can do with the help of my
2nd ex husband ! The week I did it, I slept when ever I wasn’t there….8-11am and 4pm -7pm.
So if you ever think I’ve deserted you, I’m just sleepin’ !

It seems to me you’re always around. I’m busy busy from 5am til 9pm. sometimes get up earlier or slightly later, but always down for the count at the usual time. a sleepture of habit. I tend to take 5 or ten minute power naps sometimes–not often. But if I get tired, I jusclose my eyes and doze for a few. Scares the hell out of the other drivers and my passengers.

Barbara…
My ex husband #2 George, lives a mile away in Senior Housing, and if it happens before 8 pm …his bed time, precisely at 8 pm, he’ll come over and help…when the stove caught fire, he came over AFTER 8 pm ☺ … the oldest granddaughter was living with me and cooking at the time. After 40 + years in this house, there seems to be a “stable”…poor word choice…of people to call.
Peace,
Siggi

I am completely with you on abilities to handle machines. You are not alone.
siggiofmaine
Barbara,
thanks for your reply…I don’t if I should say it is good or not that we have the same “talent”
with machines !
I am similar with the computer…luckily, Ellsworth is a small town and the computer store has local people
who are sympathetic and help me when I hit the only key that dismantles my computer or lock myself out somehow.
Thanks for your kind comment.

My younger sister lives with me since my husband passed and she is a tech genius. Lucky for me.
