Puddle by M.C. Escher
1952
Sunday Mini-Challenge
.
Our challenge is to view an artwork
and speak out about it through the medium of poetry.
For this purpose, Kerry O’Connor selected the
art of M.C. Escher, a Dutch Surrealist.
His subjects range from portraits, landscapes, city scapes
and he has a style of optical art all his own
Ekphrasis is the graphic, often dramatic,
of a visual work of art.
===============================
Ekphrasis–Puddle by M.C. Escher 1952
walking out of my flat,
gaze down…
go by,
turn around and go back.
.
the day looks so different
in a puddle …
like a puzzle piece missing
in the mat.
.
clear gray sky,
towering trees,
even the wrought iron
gate
at the entrance.
.
peaceful.
no hint of rain
or sun
or clouds.
just the sky,
with the trees.
.
quiet.
other people rush by
but don’t see
the best part of
the day
in the puddle.
.
magic.
It looks like a
magicians
illusion.
.
magic
for the soul
.

Take time to smell the roses and the vision in the puddle. Actually, one of my favorite photos has a puddle’s reflection. Good advice, this poem

I love this because you call our attention to details, to what is right under our noses and remind us to take notice. Terrific, Siggi!

I like your change of style. Art sends us in interesting directions.
siggiofmaine
Tilly,
thanks for the nice comment.
Appreciate you taking the time…the change in style is how I usually write,
but the words just haven’t been coming most days recently.
Peace.

It’s the form that’s different.

I liked that next to last stanza–captures the image well. This was Kerry’s selection, not mine, and she wrote it up and presented it, so please give her the credit, not me.
siggiofmaine
hedgewitch, Thanks for telling me of my error…please anytime let me know. I like to be as accurate at possible. the correction reads:
“For this purpose, Kerry O’Connor selected the art of M.C. Escher,”
Do I need to make a notation of the change somewhere on the blog ?
And
Thanks for the nice comment on the next to last stanza. I appreciate the kind words.
Peace.

I think this simile really captured the whole image.

This is one of my favorite Escher pieces … love, love your poetic interpretation!

Helen,
this is one I hadn’t seen .. if I had, not remembered…I love it is why I think I haven’t seen it before.
Thank you for your comment.

Thank you for your kind words. I was really reluctant to post it…I’ve never done a poem like this before.
Appreciate your time reading and responding.
