On Friday, July 22, 2011, at around 3:30 p.m. local time, a 2,000-pound homemade fertilizer bomb planted in a car
exploded and ripped through the central area of Norway’s capital, Oslo,
blowing out windows in government offices, …

ODE/SONNET TO HORRIFIC … Prompt … make an ugly word pretty

Poetry Tow Truck
.
With a bow to Mike Patrick…
whose words made me realize that there are no ugly words…
but I’ll be on the look out now…I find words interesting and
want to use the most unusual words some how…
like in nurses training we’d take a word like “mastication”
and do our best to alarm those within hearing us.
.
I’ll be using a word that horrified my mother unless it was used in proper
context:  take out the garbage.
It became one of my favorite words to find out how many ways I could use it
as a teenager.
.
Garbage
.
My first intimation
that I could get a negative
response from the word “garbage”
was at the supper table one day
when I was a senior in high school.
.
I was trying to think of a word that
would signify “swearing”…
in 1961 or 2 … I didn’t know much more
than “heck” or “H…E…double hockey sticks”
I don’t recall the topic
but surely the reaction
when I came up with
“oh, Garbage”!
.
The winds of war
and hints I’d be going straight to “heck”
were realized with
“Sigrid Ann, you’ve ruined my appetite”!
Such a puzzle it did
weave…
how could a simple,
Webster defined,
can say on television word,
cause such distress?
.
For me garbage is a perfectly
wonderful word.
It gives me visions of
recycling,
re-purposing,
art supplies:
magazines,
ads,
photos,
all the wonders of my world
of collage and mixed media art.
.
Garbage.
Can any word be so purposeful and
sound so sweet?

30 Days of  Truth…2011
.

Day 24 – Make a playlist to someone, and explain why you chose all the songs.

(Just post the titles and artists and letter)

.
I don’t know the songs to play for Jennifer.
.
Eric Clapton would be at the head of the list,
Maybe Tears on my Pillow.
Starry Starry night.
and all her favorite blues songs.
.
Jfef,
I know it is a sad day
when someone doesn’t know what songs
would soothe the sadness of a sister of the heart and soul.
I don’t know what it is like to be in your situation,
possibly saying a final goodbye to a second sister.
.
I want you to play the songs that remind you of J3
and tell the stories that come to your mind
…like the “Ginet” story
and your travels.
I won’t grow weary hearing them…
and won’t grow weary if you play the same songs
over and over.
Or get up and dance spontaneously.
.
I am honored to be part of your fb “family”
there is very little that brings tears to my eyes,
but that did…
.
I wish I could remember names of tunes and performers
….esp. those that would give you some measure of comfort.
