A TIME TO SAY GOODBYE
The time has come,
after all my whining
about wanting quiet time,
an empty house,
no disruptions to my thoughts,
I remember being told,
“be careful what you wish
for…you MAY get it.”
.
The time has come
for the last to leave
and move away,
and not return
to stay.
MOVE,
not just go to school,
join the Air Force,
(you tricked me here,
but I understand,
better life choices
in Denver)
or out of the house but
still with in reach …
twenty miles is almost
next door.
.
When the time came,
Y’all took my advice,
move near an airport
to make visiting easy…
Denver and
Dallas airports seem
a world away.
Close but not so close.
.
The time has come for
the last “forever” move,
Sabrina,
on her own,
the first grandchild to be on
her own.
My house has been her “base”,
home away from home,
for almost 19 years.
.
The time has come
for all good things
to come to an end.
Good things will start
in Texas for Sabrina,
her new home,
new school of art,
near her mother,
sister,
John,
And I can’t forget
the CATS,
Baby and Kiki
who’ve been missed like
siblings.
.
The time has come,
a new day
is starting,
a new door opened,
a new chapter has
begun.
It’s a time to say
Goodbye.

Yes, saying good-bye or see you later is hard. After 6 weeks, for me, it started to feel comfortable. But I have seen, including myself, they come back, even to move in for a while. Perhaps it’s this economy, but I have read articles in the NYT about how kids take about 4 launching to gain footing out there in the world. Enjoy your peace while you have it. The smiles, hugs, tears, growing, will return!
I truly loved this poem.

TheMsLvh..my daughter has been like a boomerang…she’s 40 now and living in Texas. I think a lot is the economy and lack of employment, And job security that used to be
just isn’t anymore.
I hope to get things in order in the house from the last two launchings and try to enjoy the peace and quiet. I have noticed while cell phones are a convenience, the younger generations expect one to be right there for every phone call…sigh. So do older people. I get checked on if I sleep thru a call or choose not to answer it !
Thanks for your lovely remarks.

Jenna…it’s kind of you to wish them back here, but there is not a thing here unless they are wealthy. Very few jobs that are secure, pay is low. I’m retired…I stayed because this is were I felt I should be….
Oh, DUH,
they can come back for a visit ! Just got home from the portrait group. Brain still in Blue Hill I think.☺.
Thanks for the nice comment about my writing…the feeling is mutual of my love for your writing.

Siggi – this is full of emotion – exciting yet bittersweet … new chapters for them, and for you. The prompt seem to come at the right time for you to be able to express your feelings. May the transition be one of freedom and peace for all and filled with peace.

Ah the empty nest – so shocking, so alien. My life turned upside down then. Completely understand the emotion invested in your words here. Good you’re writing…it’s a new avenue to defining you!
Thank you!

Hollyheir…..Yes, the empty nest…I’ve thought it to be empty before … HA ! Should have moved ! Changed my phone number ! LoL
At my age…67…it is no longer unusual to have the nest fill again, it seems. People my age, are raising grandchildren, even adopting
grandchildren as infants because the parents are unfit. I am amazed at the strength these people have.
Writing and sharing is a new adventure…very few people have ever seen what I’ve written. This IS a new avenue to defining me. Thank you for pointing that out.

Ayala,
I hope she comes back soon, and brings a truck for the rest of her things ☺.
Giving her wings, to make her own way…it will be good for her to be with her
mother and sister after more than a year apart.
