Falling softly
falling in the night’s sky
dusk arrived in all it’s glory
night falling softly over the earth.
.
Feel the night’s soft embrace,
the moon slowly rises
softly slides over the horizon
a silky silver pearl colored glow.
.
Moving quietly in the night,
birds, creatures, find their nests
snuggling in; the moon and stars
slide up over the horizon.
.
Fireflies and peepers
wake and fill the night
with sounds and light
falling softly in the night.
.
Night air falls softly around
the earth, waking night creatures:
you hear them stretch and move,
softly singing their songs of the night.
.
The hunt for food is on,
the lookouts take their places,
senses sharp: warnings of danger
on the tip of their tongues
.
The soft calls of the night
when food is found, old faithful places,
or new surprises, where friends
gather to chat and eat.
.
Quietly the caretakers of the earth
find food, wake their young: feeding time
for the babes just born, teaching time
for “toddlers” finding their own grub.
.
Falling softly over the earth
at sleep, sounds of night
reassure the faithful all is well,
as night falls softly.
