I knew this couple, many, many
years ago, and this is what the
husband told me when I asked about
life had been like at home before the
transfer to an assisted living apartment.
His wife didn’t seem to think anything
unusual about being cared for by the
hired hand. She told me that “the man”
(what she called her husband)
wasn’t her husband as her husband was
“much younger and very handsome.”

How sad to read this change in the relationship between these two old people, because she (as I understand it well) has Alzheimer’s disease. What sad to degenerate from the husband to the hired hand. Nice verse Sigrid. Thank you …

A sad and truthful story… and that’s sacrifice .. of being demoted to hired hand. Hearbreaking.

This couple was my first experience meeting a family that lived with and dealt with dementia every day for years. Back in the day, it wasn’t “Alzheimer’s”…
it was “hardening of the arteries”. It doesn’t make any difference what it is called,
it is still heart breaking and difficult day to day living with the affected person.
Thank you for your comment.
Peace,
Siggi

This is a heart breaking sacrifice you have described! And yet so touching too! Tough to live it every day though!
