for thousands of years, so it has
been calculated.

As someone who is elderly and lives alone,
it means a lot to me to know that friends

Siggi, my family celebrates both Christmas and Hanukkah – honestly, it’s Thanksgiving we sort of ignore! Too much poor history taught about it… but my Riley’s father (first marriage) is Jewish, and so we always celebrated both!
I am grateful that you took time to comment at my blog. I didn’t know about the coincidence of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah, and Riley didn’t even mention it today, so oops! Have to light a candle before retiring, and trying to sing the phonetic lyrics off the back of the candle box… Thanks so much for expressing your appreciation for fellow bloggers. When I was younger, I always worked on holidays, … my daughter always said the only tradition our family had was “Mother worked on all the Holidays”. It is one of my regrets that I never learned the importance to the children and their memories until I had grand-children. I was curious about what people “did” and why…but until later when a friend and her family included me in their rituals did I learn… duh, such a slow learner I am … Sigh…
My family sort of celebrated Christmas but they did not go to church or have a religious belief about it. We had a tree and stockings ~ I think to not have to explain why we didn’t !
I found out about the dates coinciding accidentally, and have studied the commonalities of religious practices and the ceremonious practices since taking a class called EFM… Education for Ministry…out of Sewanee Theological Seminary… more than 20 years ago now. They needed one more person to be able to give the course and I said for “one year”. It was so interesting, I just kept signing up.
The quirk in my family for celebrations is the celebration of Thanksgiving…growing up my mother and her family all gathered in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, USA for the meal. There is a big “thing” in my mother’s generation of siblings about Thanksgiving because of being direct descendants to Edward Winslow from the Mayflower.
For me, the community of bloggers is important as my family is far away and I am unable to visit them due to my income and physical limitations walking.
