I took an art class here and got lost leaving …
just one floor but it is a maze of corridors.
Ended up asking a janitor how to get out
of the building.  She put her cart away
and led me to the door being sure I was at
the correct parking lot.

* in Maine,
because of the snow and deep freeze winters,
some barns were attached to the house.  At the
far end of the barn, would be an enclosed
outhouse.  It might be cold, but protected from
the elements.
A friend told me of a house with a “3 seater”
outhouse that had been restored.
… the middle seat (the baby seat) was removable.
No record of reason someone would want to go
down under the outhouse, but it was restored
as found. I wangled a “tour” because …
well just because I needed to see it.  I remember a
3 seater outhouse in northern Wisconsin…3 sizes
of places to sit…and not attached to the house…
mighty brisk some times.

Note on Baby:
When I lived with my daughter, “grumpy”
Baby would come in my room and look out the
window… I’d made a place for him to lay and look
outside.
Baby was a rescue cat and didn’t warm up
to people, but tolerated the family. It was
many years and a severe illness until he would let
anyone hold him or pet him. I loved to watch him
as he was the first cat I ever really got to know.
He kept me company after i had back surgery
…quiet and watchful.

March 1, 2014 tanka prompt: beauty of what we do as a group (singing, writing)

By Kathabela Wilson on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 9:06am
.
March 1 prompt: the beauty of what we do as a group (singing together),
(our Mozart performance, writing together (Tanka Poets on Site) anything we do, not solo…)
.
(Our performance tonight of selections from the Mozart requiem! I love it…
Recorded from the balcony by my phone recorder while we were down there on stage!
We all do many things alone. In so many ways … we “sing solo”.
.
But what do we do together, to make unified beauty
.
This happened last night… and the beauty I think, shines through. If you can’t hear the recording…
most of you should be able to…
it is fine, because you know the kind of thing I am talking about. Open any one of our files on this site…
and see the unfolding fan of solo voices when combined give a sense of a whole view,
an anthology like “Firepearls” that sparkles.
Think of our group performance at Tanka Sunday, on the Queen Mary
when some of you joined me in person to perform as a group.
Think of our upcoming sharing and performances in the Japanese Garden
and even in China this summer when I will bring some of your tanka there
to perform for Tong Zhang the artist we wrote for…
This is why I make this site and all our anthologies.
Think of the garden of many roses that Robert Johnston has given us here.
.
.
.March 1 prompt: The Beauty of what we create as a group, singing, writing, rose garden… photo byRobert Johnston
.
.
While the beauty of each rose is kept and honored the sense of the natural overwhelming bouquets
highlight the extravagant beauty of them all together.
.
Think of the things you do, have done, as a group…
and
how this feels.
.
This is Poets on Site.
This is you and friends,
it is even you as a couple,
.
Acting beyond yourself as a solo person in the world
to create a new kind of beauty.
.
How does this sing in your “little song” ?

almost 40 years
artists meet on Wednesdays
portraits galore

models ~ ten to one hundred one
some like us enough to paint
.
.
The Wednesday Portrait group of Blue Hill, Maine, USA, have been meeting since 1976 when several artists decided to challenge themselves with life models and paint portraits. It evolved from their homes to summers painting in a barn, winters at a retirement community’s Art Room. One of the original group of women moved there and still lives there.
Several of the painters started out as models and decided to join the group as an artist.
We bring our lunch, and bond after the session ends.
Out of this group, we now have a Monday still life group in the same activity room. The plein aire painters started twelve years ago in the summer and now meet year round on Monday and Fridays  in the library in Somesville, Maine, USA.

Our host,   aka Chèvrefeuille shares his philosophy:
“Here … however …
I will try to stay close to my own philosophy which is based on more than one religion or spiritual vision.”

First … live out of unconditional love for all and everything on Earth

Second … in everything and everyone there is God (or Spirit or what ever you call it yourself), which is based on the thought ‘NaraNaraYana”, a Hindu word which means something like “God in humankind, humankind in God”.

Third... you have always look towards the other with respect
and you have to accept that the other is different from you.
In Kristjaan’s  work as an oncology nurse he states:
I always look at my patients with the thought
How would I like it if I was in that hospital bed?’ “

Feb 26, 2014 tanka prompt: bamboo fountain, also called Shishi-odoshi (deer scarer) Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden (Kath)

By Kathabela Wilson on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 11:31pm
Feb 26, 2014 prompt: bamboo fountain, (photo inspiration above)
also called Shishi-odoshi (deer scarer) Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden
Just near the entrance to the exquisite teahouse,
at the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden…
there is a bamboo fountain.
.
The soothing sight of it remains in memory long after,
as does the sound of water.
The Japanese word for this fountain
means “deer scarer” because the balance and movement
as it emtis and fills is meant to scare animals
that might disturb the delicate balance of the garden.
.
 At this garden.
I heard the sound of water,
but so far not a clacking sound and sudden movement.
.
We did see and hear that on our trips to Japan.
But it has a unction of refreshment and symbolism near the entrance to the teahouse.
What has been your experience with bamboo fountains such as this…
how do they sound and move in your tanka ?
.
