Renewal of vows
more in love than ever
tears in their eyes
first said 50 years ago
each vow honored fully
.
It has been an honor to see a couple faithfully
live their marriage vows in a meaningful
way. Thru thick and thin, all the trials
and tribulations … and blessings of children,
grands, and great grands, a blessing to the
family and all who have had the pleasure to
know them.

I knew this couple, many, many
years ago, and this is what the
husband told me when I asked about
life had been like at home before the
transfer to an assisted living apartment.
His wife didn’t seem to think anything
unusual about being cared for by the
hired hand.  She told me that “the man”
(what she called her husband)
wasn’t her husband as her husband was
“much younger and very handsome.

This one was easy.

“Love, Medicine and Miracles” by Bernie Seigel.

It was published in 1986 and I saw him on a talk show and went and bought the book.

He spoke of healing as something a person could control them selves.  He and Dr Joan Borysenko, were associates studying the mind body connection to healing and I felt that it was something I really could relate to.  I read each of his books as they came out, and also Joan Borysenko’s on Mindfulness…I really needed to learn to be more mindful and not as anxious as I was.

As luck would have it, the Whole Health Center in Bar Harbor had weekend Seminars with Dr. Seigel and his wife, Bobbie … I couldn’t attend the first one because of work, but the next two, I made sure I could attend.  What he said really spoke to my inner belief system I didn’t know existed and I got his books on audio tape and played the meditations everynight as I went to sleep.  His voice, to me was so soothing and easy to listen to, and I used his affirmations and self hypnosis tapes every day.

The same with Joan Borysenko…she spoke to the me that was crying to come out and I attended her seminars in southern Maine…not as easy to get to as Bernies, but worth the trip with other members of hospice…hospice sponsored her lectures, ans the WHC did Bernies.

Dr Seigel’s books…and lectures, along with Joan Borysenko and Paul Weiss at the Whole Health Center, helped me over a period of 8 years to get my authentic self back, not the person I’d become trying to be the person my family and spouse wanted me to be.
